There is Hope: Begin the Shift Now

Hope is the dream of a soul awake.” French proverb

Whatever you are facing, there is hope. Whatever has happened to you, there is hope. Perhaps sad feelings are starting to engulf you; perhaps you have suffered a loss. Maybe you are caught in a dysfunctional routine with limited options apparent to you. Well, there is hope. Somewhere inside you there is a small voice pointing the way out of the darkness and into the light. The voice is guiding you to a ray of hope.

According to Helen Keller, nothing can be done without out hope and confidence. So when the world is crashing down around that is when it is most important to have hope. Your deliverance could be right around the corner; there is no way of knowing.

At times like these many people seek out and rely on their faith for strength and hope. Others dig deep inside and muster all of their positive energy and focus it toward their goal. With hope, you will find it; without hope, it is likely that you will not. Hope opens pathways while despair shuts them down. In times of sadness and loss this is truly the case where you need to “be it” before you actually “feel it”. Begin to shift and reorient your thinking toward hope. Proceed at your own pace – even if it is just a little a time. Lay the foundation of hope; then continue to build upon that foundation. It gets easier as the momentum builds.

Three- Step Call to Action

  1. Identify a situation where you harbor negative feelings.
  2. Connect with your faith or other source in order to isolate a ray of hope.
  3. Build upon that hope with other positive examples and focus your energy on that hope.

  1. I can’t do task one. All the situations surrounding me are ones full of negativity. I understand that hope can change things but when you’ve had it and nothing changed, and things that were wrong in the meantime have been utterly draining, you lose hope. It’s inevitable. And you are alone when these things happen, because you’re no fun anymore and no-one wants to spend time with someone like that.

    • Dear Ruth, I am sorry to hear about your situation.

I ask that you please try very hard to look around and to find one tiny ray of hope. Look in nature – at the birds, look at the sky, at the spring flowers. See the wonders of creation and realize that you are a part of that wonder.

When skies are dark we tend to look at what is wrong. If it would be possible for you to see just one thing that you do have – are you safe, are you dry, do you have shelter, do you have adequate food and water? Is there anything that you can be thankful for? That is a start.

Perhaps you could look into a women’s discussion group. I do not know your spiritual leanings – but there might be help for you at a church.

      Take care,
      Donna Marie
