Are You Afraid that Life is Passing You By? Q & A Series

If you are breaking up, getting a divorce, or just at the end of your rope, then this Q&A series is for you. Please send in your questions. Many of you have questions… many of you are looking for answers.

Today’s Question: What can I do if I’m afraid that life is passing me by?

There you are – you are hurting.  Your life was once great – but now, not so much.  There is pain, there is sadness that can come over you in waves.  Often without warning. Often in the wrong setting . And often at the wrong time.  My heart aches for you.  I’ve been there and I know at times it can feel that there is no way out.  You might have a broken heart.  Hang in there – it can heal, really it can.

One Step Formula

What one little step can you take now?

I don’t mean to oversimplify or make light of your situation – not at all.  But from me to you , the idea of looking forward to something - anything really helped me.  And it might help you too.

So plan a little event – no big deal needed. How about an outing? A class, happy hour, a meeting – anything that you really want to do – that you would truly be happy doing?  It is your plan. Keep it simple.

Often in life we don’t get to make the plans;  we follow along with the plans of others.  But I am asking you now to make a simple plan – to take charge – and make a special plan in your life – for your life.

This simple act gives you a sense of power and contr0l over your life.  And as an added bonus, then you can look forward to doing it.  It is quite uplifiting.  It will lighten your spirits.  And it is not a big production with stress – it’s  just a little deal with no stress.

Just Do It

When it is time for your event - go and have fun.  Leave your relationship problems at the door.  Don’t spend your time looking back.  Make is a “no sadness” zone.  Be in the moment and simply have some fun.

Just a simple tip.  Go give it a try.  After all, you have nothing to lose but a little bit of sadness.

So the answer to today’s question is an NO!  Don’t be afraid that life is passing you by because now you are making plans.

  1. I like this, Donna. And it is great advice for anyone. The point that sticks with me is this — “make a simple plan.” My book touches on this topic too.

Might I add that getting our mind focused on something else is healing as well. Tending to the needs of something or someone else that need our help to thrive, can help us thrive as well.

When we focus on something or someone — usually to solve a problem — that will put ours into perspective.

Another point that’s interesting is gardening, or getting back to nature. Nature and tending to it can have healing power too. I’m not a long-haired hippie, but Henry David Thoreau said it aptly: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”

Relationships that are simple, are worth living in. I talk about this on my blog too. Come join the conversation: http://www.georgiabrock.posterous.com
