How to Find Help for Your Relationship

“Falling in love with someone isn’t always going to be easy..anger… tears… laughter…It’s when you want to be together despite it all. That’s when you truly love another. I’m sure of it.” Keiichi Morisato
Are you in need of some help in your relationship? Ah, but where to turn? Sure you have friends - some will even tell you what to do. And others will simply listen as you go on and on. Have you reached the limits of your friends and family in sorting out your relationship problems? Well, you are not alone.
Many times your first line of support is your friends. But they only know what they know. And if they are always on your side they will not see the situation objectively. Oftentimes, they can’t see what YOU are doing – because they are your friends.
So, what to do?
If you are in a faith community, that could be a good place to start. Do you need medical attention, then getting that is an important early step. Have you found a writer who inspires you? You can seek out books, blogs, and article services where the topic of relationships is front and center. A simple google search will yield bountiful benefits.
How about groups? There are scores of on-line groups focused solely on relationships. Find ones that match your beliefs and your goals (to get better) and also look at age range. Some are focused on boomers, others on those with young children – with very different messages. Observe awhile to make sure that healing – not complaining – is the primary focus. If you are on the brink of breaking up and you want to save your relationship look for sources who pull in that direction.
What you are looking for are thoughts that resonate with you. Do they seem to understand what is going on in your life? Do they understand the nature of your relationship? Your relationship issues? Your relationship problems? Then assess the fit. Are you compatible with the tone? Is the advice actionable? For you in particular?
Many Faces, Many Places
There are thousands of books, blogs, articles, and other sources of help out there. What is important is that you seek out help when you need it. Do a little resesrch to identify a small set of sources you’d like to hear from each week. Who can help to keep you on the right path when things go astray or go dark in your relationship?
And look to therapists, counselors, and coaches to help guide you in a group setting on 1-on-1. Don’t fear, there is help. When nothing seems to be going your way, don’t fear, there is help. When you don’t think that circumstances could possibly improve, don’t fear, there is help.
And look to your spouse or love to work on this together. You can begin with a gentle relationship conversation, slowly.
And often in times of overwhelm, we forget about our own tremendous capabilities. Combine your skills with the far-reaching capabilities of those around you. Even when it is very difficult, it is important for you to reach up, to reach out. When you muster the courage to ask for help, your life circumstances begin to set a new course – a solution is on the way. Look around you for sources of help – be it physical, emotional, financial, or spiritual. There are qualified resources all around you.
There is Help
So whatever you are facing, look inside yourself and look outside yourself and ask for help. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not a sign of weakness. Asking for help opens doors to a faster and better solution – it builds a new foundation for you in problem solving. How could that be anything but good?
Truly connect with the healing community to explore the possibilities for customized help going forward.
